'What Works for Children?' has produced summaries of research evidence on some specific interventions, called Evidence Nuggets. The nuggets present the available evidence on specific interventions covering: cognitive behaviour therapy; mentoring; parenting; home visiting; breakfast clubs; traffic calming.

The Scottish Drugs Forum

Scottish Drugs Forum (SDF) is the national non-government drugs policy and information agency working in partnership with others to co-ordinate effective responses to drug use in Scotland. SDF aims to support and represent, at both local and national levels, a wide range of interests, promoting collaborative, evidence-based responses to drug use.

'Extra care' housing and people with dementia: a scoping review of the literature 1998-2008

This literature review examines the evidence relating to people with dementia living in extra care housing, commissioned by the Housing and Dementia Research Consortium (HDRC) in November 2008. Key aims were to identify recent literature with a focus on evidence relating to the following: design and use of the built environment; facilities, furnishings and equipment; care, support and therapeutic services; organisation and management; outcomes in relation to health, wellbeing, policy and cost.

This site presents the work of the York node of the Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC)-supported Evidence Network. Their aim is to contribute to the development of systematic review methodologies in social policy and social care.

Measuring what matters : key indicators for the development of evidence-based employment services

Paper providing a set of key performance indicators to help local mental health and employment services to monitor employment outcomes and identify development priorities for people in contact with specialist mental health services. The indicators were developed after consultation with a group of stakeholders and tested across 17 sites with NHS and voluntary sector providers and local commissioners.

Commissioning and managing external research : a guide for child care agencies

This pamphlet on commissioning research brings together papers from two Research in Practice seminars. Its central message is that research commissioned by child care agencies, including service evaluations, can bring clarity to children and family work provided certain considerations are borne in mind when planning and conducting studies and using the results. They include holding a sharp focus on the questions to be explored, choosing sympathetic, responsive researchers and having the skills to manage the contract.
