Report that provides a civil society perspective on the situation of racism and related discrimination in Europe, between March 2010 and March 2011.

Findings indicate that racially discriminatory practices are widespread, institutional in nature and practiced at all levels of society across Europe.

Scottish social attitudes survey 2010: attitudes to discrimination and positive action

Report that presents key findings from a study of public attitudes towards discrimination and positive action. Based on data from the Scottish Social Attitudes survey (SSA), the study aimed to:

• Measure the extent and character of discriminatory attitudes in Scotland in 2010
• Assess the extent of support for positive action to try and achieve equality for different groups
• Examine how attitudes have changed over time.

Scottish Independent Advocacy Alliance newsletter December 2004

The Scottish Independent Advocacy Alliance (SIAA) promotes, supports and defends the principles and practice of independent advocacy across Scotland. This newsletter provides an update on the progress of the SIAA and includes details of their 'Training for Trainers' session, information about elder abuse, Freedom of Information Act (Scotland) 2002, some health and safety issues and details of useful organisations.

Social Work Intervention

Social Work Intervention is suitable for use once students have appreciated the basic structure and content of the legal rules, which can be applied to a case. Social Work Intervention will raise awareness of: the legal rules that create the framework for social work intervention; the different points of intervention: initial referral and screening, assessment and care planning; and review and re-assessment.

Fair for all : disability

Fair For All - Disability is a strategic partnership initiative developed by the Scottish Executive Health Department, and the Disability Rights Commission. The team consists of health service, voluntary sector and Disability Rights Commission staff. The initiative is part of the Scottish Executive Health Department's wider Patient Focus and Public Involvement agenda and the national Equality and Diversity approach known as 'Fair for All Wider Challenge'.

Gay bullying (Radio 4 series: Woman's Hour)

How can homophobic bullying be stopped? It is estimated that there are 60,000 lesbians and gay teenagers subjected to homophobic bullying at any one time. Gay rights charity, Stonewall, has launched a campaign called Education for All which highlights the problems of this type of bullying in schools. Jenni hears from a lesbian who endured bullying at school for many years.

She also finds out what is being done to eradicate this neglected aspect of bullying and why despite government guidelines, schools still don't seem to know how to deal with this problem.
