holistic care

In 2005 NICE published guidance on 'Improving outcomes in children and young people with cancer'. CLIC Sargent suggested that a review into the community based care and support needed by children with cancer and their families was required to support the full implementation of the guidance.

This resource looks at how establishing links between food and learning supports the holistic philosophy of early years practitioners and how listening to young children is a core function of working with children and supporting their development and understanding.

This resource is for practitioners who work to support or may come into contact with young carers. It is not an assessment tool but a "map" for both families and agencies to follow so they can see what choices, what responsibilities and what lines of accountability for services may be available. When using the "Whole Family Pathway", practitioners should refer to the Key Principles of Practice for supporting young carers and their families.
