The government published the new drug strategy in February 2008. Since then there has been a great deal of progress, with drug use now down to its lowest level in more than a decade. However, there is still more to be done and the government is determined that the action it takes should meet the priorities and needs of local communities.
Sets out the results of a follow-up review of the 2005/06 national review of NHS adult community mental health services. Fifteen indicators were selected in the follow up review. National findings are presented showing the changes in trusts performance - improvement or deterioration - against each of the 15 indicators. The results are then discussed under three themes: access to appropriate care and treatment; involving people who use services; and recovery and social inclusion.
UK Drug Rehab is a directory of drug addiction treatment centres, drug rehab organisations and service providers within the United Kingdom. "UK-Rehab.Com is a privately funded, non-profit making project that aims to provide free, unbiased information on drug addiction, alcoholism, substance abuse and rehabilitation." A dozen rehabs in the UK have closed and others made counsellors redundant. Most depend on the state for clients – but it refers only 2% of drug abusers to drug-free treatment, creating a crisis of empty beds and waiting lists of people desperate to fill them. Taxes were spent on a redefinition of “recovery” excluding drug/alcohol-free goals. Deirdre Boyd feels the seven-year itch for change.
