research implementation

Methodspace

This website, run by the publishers SAGE, aims to provide support for "researchers, students and university teachers who are interested in learning more about anything to do with research methods". It covers both qualitative and quantitative approaches and tailors the resources available according to the needs of each type of user. The website lists journals, organisations, software, mailing lists, conferences and websites that may be of interest, as well as books.

How social workers spend their time: an analysis of the key issues that impact on practice pre- and post implementation of the integrated children's system

Over several years now commentators have raised concerns that an increasing administrative burden is deflecting social workers from working directly with children and families to identify and meet their needs. This study involved a secondary analysis of existing research data to provide information on the extent to which social workers report spending their time on direct activities with children, young people and their families, and on indirectly related activities such as liaising with other professionals or recording information.

Review of the Scottish Drugs Forum

The overall aim of this review was to establish the effectiveness of SDF in delivering its aims and objectives, in particular the extent to which it provides value for money in respect of funding received from the Scottish Government; and to evaluate the current and future capacity of the organisation to deliver value for money in light of the new strategic approach to tackling drug use in Scotland.

Review of section 5 of the Housing (Scotland) Act 2001

The Housing (Scotland) Act 2001 extended the duties of local authorities toward homeless people in Scotland, while also recognising that Registered Social Landlords (RSLs) had an increasing role to play in providing housing for statutorily homeless households. A growing body of evidence suggests the use of Section 5 differs across Scotland and that its use may be less than had originally been anticipated. There also seems to be confusion regarding the purpose and scope of the requirements.

Supporting local information and research: Understanding demand and improving capacity

This review intends to understand how to strengthen support to local partners in using local information and research in decision-making. The investigation has probed the following questions: what are the sources of demand for local information and research?; how is research carried out locally?; how is local information and analysis currently supported by national, regional and sub-regional organisations? This report includes recommendations for national, regional, and local organisations for strengthening support for local partners.

Interchange 66: Developments in Inclusive Schooling

This report provides a summary of the ‘Review of Developments in Inclusive Schooling’, commissioned by the Scottish Executive Education Department. The aims of the review are to: report research on significant developments related to inclusive schools or inclusive schooling; summarize emerging issues and trends; and identify areas which could benefit from further research.

Statutory Guidance, Children's Trusts: Statutory guidance on inter-agency cooperation to improve well-being of children, young people and their families

This guidance, issued under section 10 of the Children Act 2004 and to which all local authorities and “relevant partners” must have regard, replaces the Statutory guidance on inter-agency cooperation to improve wellbeing of children: children’s trusts (2005) and the consultation document Children’s Trusts: statutory guidance on inter-agency cooperation to improve well-being of children, young people and their families published in April 2008.

The experiences of children with lesbian and gay parents: an initial scoping review of evidence

This paper was written in response to the Hearts and Minds Agenda Group recommendation that research is conducted into the experiences of children of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) parents. This paper presents a review of the findings from eight papers identified by experts in the field and an internal literature search. It should be noted that these identified papers were predominantly focused on lesbian and gay parenting and not on parents identifying as bisexual or transgender.

Review of section 5 of the Housing (Scotland) Act 2001

The research examined the use of Section 5 of the Housing (Scotland) Act 2001 and other routes through which local authorities assist statutorily homeless households in securing permanent accommodation from a Registered Social landlord (RSL).

Section 5 gives local authorities the power to require RSLs operating in their area to provide accommodation for homeless households.

The research has been undertaken by Craigforth for the Scottish Government and is to be used by the Government to inform their review of policy and guidance in this area.
