See hear: a strategic framework for meeting the needs of people with a sensory impairment in Scotland

See Hear is a strategy for both children and adults. It recognises the rising incidence of those illnesses and disabilities that increase with age and acknowledges the work for children with sensory loss taking place through policies such as Getting It Right For Every Child (GIRFEC), the Children and Young People (Scotland) Bill which is currently progressing through Parliament and the Scottish Government's response to the Doran Review. It is set against a background of increasing demand, the requirement for greater efficiency and effectiveness, and health and social care Integration.

Documentary film examining a man's remarkable journey from being a healthy 30-something British man to becoming completely paralysed from the neck down, due to a devastating illness known as ALS, MND or Lou Gehrig's Disease.

In this film, Doug, a gay man with physical disabilities is in residential accommodation eight miles away from his friends and family. Doug carefully considered when to ‘come out' within residential care and explains that this is a continual process because of the high turnover of residential care staff.

Disability-related harassment: the role of public bodies - a qualitative research report

Research designed to provide detailed information about disabled people’s experiences and views of disability-related harassment and their perceptions of the role of public bodies.

It was based on focus groups and in-depth interviews with a total of 87 disabled people, recruited on the basis of having experienced disability related harassment in the previous three years.

Disabled people's costs of living

It is well known that disabled people face additional costs to enable them to meet their needs. However, there has been no clear evidence about the true extent of these costs. This research, conducted by the Centre for Research in Social Policy with the support of Disability Alliance, presents budget standards for groups of disabled people who have different needs arising from physical or sensory impairments.
