Mind How to improve your wellbeing through physical activity and sport

Mind is a leading mental health charity in England and Wales and has produced information on many areas of mental health. Physical activity can boost mental wellbeing and change your outlook on life. It can help people with anxiety and depression, and might even prevent such problems from developing in the first place. This booklet provides practical advice about ways of building more activity into your life, and identifies ways to help you stick to a more active lifestyle. It's not designed to give detailed information about individual activities.

Mental health and employment

This report presents findings of a qualitative research project commissioned by the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) to investigate the relationship between mental health and employment. The research was conducted during 2007 by the Social Policy Research Unit at the University of York and the Institute for Employment Studies.

This learning object is about ways in which people's experience of ageing and mental health are shaped by society's attitudes to older people and later life. You will consider the way age-related images and ideas, displayed in the media and in everyday language, shape our perceptions; but also what we know about older people's own attitudes and aspirations. This object also contains a self-assessment section where you can test how far you have assimilated the key messages from this learning object.

The Scottish Independent Advocacy Alliance Annual Report 2005

The Scottish Independent Advocacy Alliance promotes, supports and defends the principles and practice of independent advocacy across Scotland. This report details activities undertaken by the SIAA in 2005 including running 'advocacy awareness' training for service providers, a 'training for trainers' course, the distribution of the 'Directory of Advocacy Organisations in Scotland' and the development of the SIAA website which hosts a discussion forum to discuss dilemmas and to start discussions on advocacy in Scotland.

Review of the implementation of the Human Rights Act

This resource is a review which looks specifically at problems with the implementation of the Human Rights Act. The review was commissioned in the immediate aftermath of the Inquiry Report (by HM Chief Inspector of Probation) into the release of Anthony Rice, which had suggested that human rights arguments, and the Human Rights Act, had been contributory factors in the events leading to the murder of Naomi Bryant.

The Advocacy Conference 2003 : practice issues in advocacy

This conference report discusses the outcomes of workshops carried out by the Advocacy Safeguards Agency (ASA) and the Scottish Independent Advocacy Alliance (SIAA) in association with the Scottish Executive. In preparation for revising guidance on advocacy provision, these workshops focused on good practice in advocacy which highlighted some of the issues advocates, advocacy organisations and others would like guidance on.
