Analysis and review of staff training regarding care for older people

One of a series of reports which forms part of the PROP Practitioner Research Programme, a partnership between the Centre for Research on Families and Relationships (CRFR) at the University of Edinburgh and IRISS that was about health and social care for older people.

This report was compiled with the intention of reviewing the reablement training programme provided by West Lothian Council. The programme came about as part of the 'Reshaping Care for Older People Services Agenda'. This programme was funded through 'The Agenda for Change fund'.

Systematic map and synthesis review of the effectiveness of personal development planning for improving student learning

This review aims to determine the effectiveness of PDP in higher education. The systematic review was published by EPPI-Centre in 2003. Systematic reviews aim to find as much as possible of the research relevant to the particular research questions, and use explicit methods to identify what can reliably be said on the basis of these studies.

Systematic literature review on how training and professional development activities impact on teaching assistants’ classroom practice (1988-2006)

The initial review question used to explore and map the research literature was: What is the impact (both measured and perceived) of training on primary and secondary Teaching Assistants (TAs) and their ability to support pupils’ learning and engagement?

Workforce development scie guide 38 : social care governance: a workbook based on practice in England

This workbook is based on practice in Somerset and Bath. Twelve multi-disciplinary teams across Somerset, Bath and North East Somerset completed a series of workshops examining the core elements of practice. The teams spent one hour on each core element to look at identifying good practice, improving practice and feeding back areas for development at an organisational level. Action plans at team and organisational level were developed to implement changes to practice.

Skills for care

Skills for Care is the employer led authority on the training standards and development needs of adult social care staff in England. Skills for Care work with establishments offering adult social care and training providers - both regionally and nationally - to establish standards and qualifications that will equip social care workers with the skills and knowledge needed to deliver an improved standard of care.

Social Work Reform Board

The final report of the Social Work Task Force, Building a safe, confident future, stated the need for employers, educators, regulators, service users, government and the social work profession itself to work together to bring about social work reform, and all to sign up to a shared and sustained programme of work.

Following the Task Force report, ministers announced the formation of the Social Work Reform Board (SWRB). The Board reflects this need for collective responsibility and commitment, working alongside government to implement the Task Force’s recommended reforms.
