It's everyone's job to make sure I'm alright : literature review

The aim of this review was to provide an overview of the ideas and research evidence on child abuse and child protection in order to inform the work of the child protection review team. It is predominantly a review of UK research evidence. In some areas, however, UK evidence was found to be lacking and reference has been made to research from the US, Australia and elsewhere.

Young carers: assessments and services - literature review of identification, needs assessment and service provision for young carers and their families

This literature review examines the ways in which young carers come to the attention of voluntary and statutory agencies, and factors inhibiting identification. It identifies the ways in which young carers’ needs are assessed and it examines approaches to service provision by both statutory and voluntary agencies. The review also identifies approaches that are successful in meeting the social, educational and health needs of young carers.

Falkirk Child Protection Committee Annual Report and Action Plan 2005 - 2006

The Committee set itself a challenging action plan and this annual report sets out what action has been taken forward individually and collectively over the last year in pursuance of stronger and more effective child protection services. The report also contains an action plan for the year ahead in which a number of commitments are made which are designed to ensure continuous improvement of the services provided across the Falkirk area.

Report presenting the findings of a study which investigated the continuity of care experienced by prisoners before and after release. It also makes recommendations as to how continuity of care between prison and the community could be improved.

Paper looking at whether, and to what extent, increased local autonomy for the police could improve policing in England and arguing for a greater emphasis on partnership policing and neighbourhood policing.

Framework for the assessment of children in need and their families

This report sets out a framework for the assessment of children in need and their families involving cooperation from all agencies who have a role in protecting children in society.

The government's expectations of how this framework will be used are also laid out. The guidance has been produced primarily for the use of professionals and other staff who will be involved in undertaking assessments of children in need and their families under the Children Act 1989.

The government's response to the Kent Report on Children's Safeguards Review

This response to the Children’s Safeguards Review by Roger Kent sets out the Government’s proposals for improving the quality of care for children who are looked after away from home.

This includes the recruitment, selection and vetting of residential child care staff; training of residential care staff; their registration and inspection; the inter-relationship with education child protection; support for children in boarding schools; investigation and monitoring of children in prison, refuges and helping young abusers.

Integrated strategy for the early years

This paper focuses on the services provided to young children (from pre-birth to 5) and their families.

It sets out a framework which draws together existing policies from across the Scottish Executive in this area – whether that is promoting childcare, health visitor support, preschool education or broader support for parenting skills.

It seeks to promote greater coherence between these executive policies to give better support to joined-up delivery on the ground.
