Evidence review that focuses on the topic of organisational culture change in the public sector. It examines definitions and approaches to organisational culture and how they relate to the public sector; the type of change that identifies as cultural; what the enablers are to culture change; and describes some of the challenges to changing cultures in the public sector.

Includes audio recordings of the keynote addresses as well as five video interviews capturing key points from a leadership event that took place in Elgin, Moray on 17 March 2011, organised by the Moray Collaborative Learning Network.

The network comprises The Moray Council, Moray College, NHS Grampian; RAF Lossiemouth; Grampian Fire and Rescue Service; Grampian Police, Voluntary Action Moray and the Learning Network North (social services).

• a resource of practical tools and ideas;
• a means of stimulating new ways of reflecting and new ways of taking action which are complementary, or additional, to existing local leadership development activity and inspection and audit processes.

Leading together: an analysis of leadership activity and development needs in Scotland's social services

The Changing Lives Report (Scottish Executive, 2006) highlighted the need for leadership at all levels within the social services workforce. The Leadership and Management subgroup of the review made recommendations for a leadership and management development framework which ‘should make explicit common qualities and behaviours that are required of all leaders and managers in a public sector context, but also identify whether there are additional or specific needs for the social service context’ (Leadership and Management subgroup, 2005).

A range of elearning resources developed by the Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC) to assist employers in meeting the expectations of the workforce development and registration agendas for the social services sector. Some are focused on supporting the individual employee to plan and progress their own learning and development, and others are intended for employers to support them in developing the workforce they need now, or may need in the future.

Making quality happen: a leaflet for senior managers and commissioners of children's services

This booklet provides an overview of the key research messages from 'Quality Matters: Messages from Research' written by Mike Stein which examined the impact of the Quality Protects initiative on the quality of services for children and young people looked after by local authorities. After setting out the key messages the booklet focuses on: assessment; supporting quality care; and integrated working, training and workforce reform. A full list of the nine studies including a short description of their aims and methodology is included.
