Child trends fact sheet: neighbourhood support and children’s connectedness

This fact sheets provides information as to whether children’s outcomes are better if they live in environments that are supportive in terms of family, peers, and community.

Results indicate that children from supportive neighbourhoods are more likely to have stronger connections compared to their counterparts from less supportive neighbourhoods.

Building character

Report of a research project which studied the development of character capabilities contributing to life chances and the factors influencing their development. It concludes that the early years are the critical years in this regard and that parents are, consequently, the principal character builders in society.

SCIE Position paper 2: A framework for supporting and assessing practice learning

In this position paper, the Social Care Institute for Excellence (SCIE) sets out a skills and qualifications framework that should support practice learning, both in the new degree and across social care organisations. We focus on ways of supporting those whose task it is to assess practice in the workplace ('practice assessors’). We also look at employers’ opportunities for organisational development, improved practice standards and human resource development (HRD).
