A young people's charter on housing

The shortage of affordable housing means that young people face major constraints in their housing choices. This puts increasing pressure on them to get their first move into the housing market right or risk losing out altogether. With many young people still aspiring to own a home, what are their experiences of moving through the housing system? What changes would they like to see?

Public attitudes to housing

Paper that examines public attitudes towards housing tenure; public attitudes towards neighbourhood and property types; perceptions of housing taxation; and the implications of the evidence for reforming the housing system to support vulnerable households. The Joseph Rowntree Foundation (JRF) commissioned the paper to contribute ideas for its Housing Market Taskforce, a two-year programme of work aiming to achieve long-term stability in the housing market for vulnerable households.

Homelessness etc. (Scotland) Act 2003

The Homelessness etc. (Scotland) Act 2003 takes forward the proposals for legislative change incorporated in the final report of the Homelessness Task Force. The Act amends existing homelessness legislation, contained in the Housing (Scotland) Act 1987 and the Housing (Scotland) Act 2001. It also makes changes to repossession proceedings for houses let on assured tenancies, as currently set out in the Housing (Scotland) Act 1988.

Building pressure : access to housing in Scotland in 2009

Report drawing attention to some of the symptoms of the shortage of affordable housing in Scotland. These include lengthening waiting lists, increased use of temporary accommodation, increased competition for decreasing numbers of lets and rising numbers of evictions. To counter these trends the report urges the Scottish Government to continue investing in affordable housing.
