The regions compared were in England, Northern Ireland, Republic of Ireland, Wales, Sweden, Finland, Norway, Spain, Belgium and Germany.

Report providing an update on time trends in health-related knowledge, attitudes, motivations and behaviours in Scotland over the period 1996-2007 using data from the Health Education Population Survey in 2007. It focuses on areas where there has been a change, or consolidation of an earlier change, in 2007.

Report evaluating the quality of drug education programmes witnessed in schools during a survey. It sketches young people's use of drugs including alcohol and tobacco and identifies aspects of provision, e.g. teaching, which have improved since the last Ofsted report in 1997.

Exploring reductions in smoking during pregnancy in Glasgow

Report presenting the findings of an analysis of official statistics on smoking during pregnancy for Scotland and Glasgow in particular. The findings revealed that reductions in smoking rates were not due to women giving up smoking but an increase in the percentage of women whose smoking status was recorded as 'not known'.

Health in Scotland 2008: shedding light on hidden epidemics

Report from the Chief Medical Officer reviewing some of the data on the habits which studies are showing have a dramatic effect on risks of developing chronic ill health or premature death.

It also considers some of the mental health problems which may contribute to chronic stress in sufferers by lessening their ability to control and manage their lives. Such problems include ADHD in adults, post traumatic stress syndrome and obsessive compulsive disorders.
