Strengthening food work across ethnic minority communities: a focus on maternal and infant nutrition

A small-scale study designed to provide a snapshot of voluntary and community organisations' activity in relation to maternal and infant nutrition across ethnic minority (EM) communities in Scotland.

The study was designed to provide some basic information about levels of activity, services offered and resources used to support this work. It looked for the major constraints and barriers that organisations face in working in this area and also their future learning and development needs.

Communities that cook: a systematic review of the effectiveness and appropriateness of interventions to introduce adults to home cooking

Concerns over the health implications of poor diets, and claims for links between cooking and social connectedness, have led to heightened interest in the UK public’s ability to cook. There has been a focus recently on community-based, ‘home cooking’ courses aimed at adults. This review aimed to explore the range of these courses evaluated in the UK; and to synthesise findings about outcomes and appropriateness. Evidence summary published by the EPPI-Centre in 2012.

Barriers to, and facilitators of, the health of young people : a systematic review of evidence on young people's views and on interventions to promote mental health, physical activity and healthy eating

This report synthesises the results of three previous reviews undertaken by the EPPI-Centre: young people and mental health; young people and healthy eating and young people and physical activity. Children and healthy eating : a systematic review of barriers and facilitators

This report describes a systematic review surveying what is known about the barriers to and facilitators of healthy eating amongst children aged four to 10 years old. It focuses in particular on barriers and facilitators in relation to fruit and vegetables.This systematic review was published by EPPI-Centre in 2004. This review assesses the impact of agricultural interventions on the nutritional status of children. The results of this systematic review will benefit governments and NGOs wishing to develop and deliver effective interventions.
