Education (Disability Strategies and Pupils' Educational Records) (Scotland) Act 2002

This Act will require education authorities, proprietors of independent schools, managers of grant-aided schools and boards of management of self-governing schools to prepare accessibility strategies to improve access to education for pupils with disabilities; require those authorities and proprietors or managers to review and implement these strategies; and empower the Scottish Ministers to make regulations in relation to the keeping, transferring and disclosure of pupils' educational records.

Education of children in need

A study suggesting ways to improve communication between schools and children's services is discussed. The study 'Multi professional communication: making systems work for children' by Georgian Glenny and Caroline Roaf, examined case studies over a seven year period in order to identify the ingredients of successful communication systems.

A professional's place in extended schools

Article which summarises the methods and findings of a study which examined the role of social care professionals in extended schools and children's centres. It was found that the extended school environment can help strengthen multi-agency relationships. The research was conducted by the National Foundation for Educational Research.

This report sets out the government response to the findings and recommendations of the Cullen Inquiry following the shootings at Dunblane Primary School by Thomas Hamilton on 13 March 1996. Comment is made on: recommendations on the certification system relating to Section 1 firearms; police powers and the legal responsibilities of licensed gun or firearms clubs; restriction of the availability of Section 1 firearms and amendment of existing firearms legislation accordingly.
