This resource is the sixth in a series of lectures designed to honour the memory and achievement of Lord Kilbrandon who wrote one of the most influential policy statements on how a society should deal with 'children in trouble'. This lecture discusses Council of Europe treaties, standard setting, the promotion of rights and juvenile justice.

The Scottish Independent Advocacy Alliance (SIAA) promotes, supports and defends the principles and practice of independent advocacy across Scotland. This newsletter provides an update on the progress of the SIAA. Points of interest include information on the Human Rights Act 2000, Protection of Children (Scotland) Act 2003; details of organisations who offer support to those affected by stress, domestic abuse, mental health problems and elder abuse.

North East Scotland Equalities Network (NESEN)

Grampian Racial Equality Council was established in the mid-1980s to tackle discrimination as defined by, and within the confines of, the Race Relations Act 1976, soon to be strengthened and complemented by the forthcoming Race Relations Act (Amendment) Bill and the Human Rights Act 1998. Although the Grampian Racial Equality Council was an autonomous, voluntary sector, organisation they work in partnership with the government body, the Commission for Racial Equality.

NESEN is a user-led Grampian wide Equality Network.

Children's hearings system : the fifth Kilbrandon child care lecture

This lecture looks at the essentials of the hearings system, human and children's rights, as well as issues of welfare and youth justice.

From safety net to springboard: a new approach to care and support for all based on equality and human rights

This report draws on a literature review and consultation to examine the current performance of care and support in protecting and promoting human rights and equality. The report aims to influence thinking on the future of care and support in England and it sets out the actions the Equality and Human Rights Commission will take to help make its vision for care and support a reality.

European Network Against Racism

European Network Against Racism (ENAR), a network of European Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs) working to combat racism in all the EU member states, is a major outcome of the 1997 European Year Against Racism. ENAR is determined to fight racism, xenophobia, anti-Semitism and Islamophobia, to promote equality of treatment between EU citizens and third country nationals, and to link local/regional/national initiatives with European initiatives.
