Supporting older families : making a real difference

This resource is a practical tool for learning disability partnership boards and others working to support older family carers and their relative with a learning disability – referred to here as older families – to bring about positive changes in their lives. It should enable boards to measure what they are doing, how well they are doing it and to decide what they need to do next.

The Scottish Independent Advocacy Alliance Annual Report 2005

The Scottish Independent Advocacy Alliance promotes, supports and defends the principles and practice of independent advocacy across Scotland. This report details activities undertaken by the SIAA in 2005 including running 'advocacy awareness' training for service providers, a 'training for trainers' course, the distribution of the 'Directory of Advocacy Organisations in Scotland' and the development of the SIAA website which hosts a discussion forum to discuss dilemmas and to start discussions on advocacy in Scotland.

The Advocacy Conference 2003 : practice issues in advocacy

This conference report discusses the outcomes of workshops carried out by the Advocacy Safeguards Agency (ASA) and the Scottish Independent Advocacy Alliance (SIAA) in association with the Scottish Executive. In preparation for revising guidance on advocacy provision, these workshops focused on good practice in advocacy which highlighted some of the issues advocates, advocacy organisations and others would like guidance on.

Living on the edge: enabling older owner occupiers with moderate learning disabilities to live independently

Report focusing on the plight of older people with mild to moderate learning disabilities living independently in their own homes. It notes that many reach crisis points which threaten their independence and argues that a service response model based on crisis support workers is the most effective way of preventing such crises occurring and recurring.

Transforming adult social care: access to information, advice and advocacy

Reports on current activity and research in relation to information, advice and advocacy and the delivery of 'Putting People First'. The research included: a literature review; a survey of directors of adults social services; a review of a sample of local authority and national websites; and in-depth work with selected local authorities and national organisations. Examples of good practice and recommendations for the development of services are included.
