Behind closed doors : preventing sexual abuse against adults with a learning disability

Report presenting evidence and case studies which highlight the type and extent of sexual abuse experienced by adults with a learning disability and how they are often poorly served by the legal system in England. The report argues for new legislation to provide better protection from abuse and ensure abusers are successfully prosecuted and sentenced.

2008-09 Scottish Crime and Justice Survey: sexual victimisation and stalking

The Scottish Crime and Justice Survey (SCJS) is a large-scale continuous survey measuring peoples’ experience and perceptions of crime in Scotland. The survey is based on, annually, 16,000 in-home face-to-face interviews with adults (aged 16 or over) living in private households in Scotland.

The results for 2008-09 are presented in a series of reports including this one which provides information on stalking and sexual victimisation.

Anon: Ripley book project

A resource for professionals working with sexually abused children and young people that contains a collection of stories, poetry and pictures by a group of young people who met through an NSPCC service, which helped them come to terms with the experience of sexual abuse.

Sexualisation of young people: review

Review that focuses on the sexualisation of all young people and to look at how hyper-sexualisation and objectification of girls on the one hand, and hyper- masculinisation of boys on the other, perpetuate and reinforce each other.

Stop Violence Against Women

The Stop Violence Against Women website (STOPVAW) is a forum for information, advocacy and change. Minnesota Advocates for Human Rights developed this website as a tool for the promotion of women's human rights in the countries of Central and Eastern Europe (CEE) and the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS), Mongolia, and the U.N. Protectorate of Kosovo. STOPVAW was developed with support from and in consultation with the United Nations Development Fund for Women (UNIFEM) and the Open Society Institute's Network Women's Program.

Others live in families that are having a really difficult time and cannot cope with their problems. Some children are deliberately neglected or hurt by the adults around them.
