This is the second report submitted to the Scottish Executive in line with the Guidance for Child Protection Committees published in January 2005. It is a review of key policy and work over the past year.

This Act of Scottish Parliament establishes a new independent body to regulate care services in Scotland to be known as the Scottish Commission for the Regulation of Care ('The Commission'). It also establishes a system of care regulation, encompassing the registration and inspection of care services against a set of national care standards and the taking of any enforcement action; a new independent body, to be known as the Scottish Social Services Council ('The Council') to regulate social service workers and to promote and regulate their education and training.
This exercise provides a good basis for challenging values and attitudes and can give trainers evidence in assessable training. This is useful for practitioners across the services, volunteers, and newly qualified staff. The exercise lasts approximately 45 minutes and is suitable for a group of 12 -15.

It is aimed at anyone involved in commissioning, planning, developing, delivering and evaluating services for drug users.
This online guide suggests some simple steps that can be taken to make children safer, and to understand better how and why people sexually abuse children and how we can stop them.
It includes information on: who are the abusers?, how do abusers control children?, how do abusers keep children from telling?, what makes children vulnerable? and leaving children in the care of others; hints and tips; talking with your children; children out and about; and what to do if you suspect abuse.
The aim of this workshop is to dispel the fears of people who are relatively new to child protection issues, and those who feel it is a muddy area of legislation and uncomfortable procedures for themselves and the children and young people they work with.
The beauty of this workshop is it can be used for introduction to child protection issues or to update existing knowledge or beliefs. The exercise lasts between 1 to 3 hours and is suitable for groups of 3 to 20.
This report sets out the findings of the Cullen Inquiry following the shootings at Dunblane Primary School by Thomas Hamilton on 13 March 1996. The aim of the Inquiry was to clarify the exact circumstances leading up to and surrounding the incident, and to provide recommendations to safeguard the public against the misuse of firearms and other issues raised by the investigation.
Key recommendations include improved school security; the certification of firearms; and the vetting and supervision of adults working with children.
