Think child, think parent, think family: a guide to parental mental health and child welfare

Guide about working with parents who have mental health problems and their children. It provides guidance on policy and practice and makes recommendations for key areas of professional education, workforce development and research. It also provides links to useful resources and contact details of relevant organisations.

What Works for Children

'What Works for Children?' has produced summaries of research evidence on some specific interventions, called Evidence Nuggets. The nuggets present the available evidence on specific interventions covering: cognitive behaviour therapy; mentoring; parenting; home visiting; breakfast clubs; traffic calming.

Making ContactPoint work

The Children's Rights Director is often asked by the Government to find out children's views about ideas or changes that are being proposed in children's social care. This report is about the rules that the Government is proposing for running the new ContactPoint database of all children in England.

Managing risks and minimising mistakes in services to children and families

This report focuses specifically on reducing risk in services to children and families by identifying and learning from near misses in children's services. It aims to start a debate about the management of risk at an organisational level and to support the introduction of the Children Act 2004 in England and Wales and the development of Local Safeguarding Children Boards (LSCBs).

Edinburgh’s Children : Summary Report : The Edinburgh Inquiry into Abuse and Protection of Children in Care

This is a selective summary report of the Inquiry set up following the conviction of two former care workers on 4th of December 1997 by the City of Edinburgh Council’s Policy and Resources Committee to investigate matters arising from these trials. This report summarises the findings of the Inquiry. It includes investigation and review of historical procedures and allegations; review of current procedures, practice and guidelines in operation in the City of Edinburgh; and recommendations to assure that every measure is in place to minimise child abuse.

This feasibility study sought to examine how best to conceptualise and evaluate how decision-making in children’s lives takes due account of their views, with particular attention to processes related to Part I of the Children (Scotland) Act 1995 and the implications for compliance with the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC).
